What is this Love

매일그대와 수많은 감정들을 나눠주고 배워가며
싸우고 울고 안아주고 — 내게 말해줘 이게 사랑이라면.

Sharing and learning countless emotions everyday with you
Fighting, crying and hugging — Tell me, if this is love.

It’s an excuse to post a Kpop song. No, it’s an excuse to post anything related to love. I’m kidding. I still don’t follow EXO very much. But I love this song.

Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
    two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

This love isn’t just by the world’s standards; God IS love and He KNOWS love as He IS that love. I once read this quoted somewhere, a theologian named William Girao tells us the misconception:

“God is love,” the apostle John tells us. Everything that God is, love is. The converse, however, is not true. It is inaccurate to say that everything love is, God is. Love by whose definition? Love by whose experience? Love as modeled by whom? This, in fact, is the idolatry of our generation. We have deified ‘love’.

I thoroughly believe that God wants people to find all the answers to their heart’s aching in Him. But I also thoroughly believe that He means for us also to stand side by side with someone else, be it a better half, a friend, a family, constantly walking with each other encouragingly towards Him. And not just for a season. But for a long time, constantly, towards Him. Sure, we were conditioned to think love is the butterflies and the uncontrollable smiles, and beyond all the niceties lie also the pain and the decisions — but by any human definition, we can’t box it entirely.

But love by the definition or experience or standard of anyone except by the perfection of God is imperfect love, not genuine love. And anything imperfect is not of God.

The third strand; in a love that honors God — it is so much more than a heart beating and emotions rising and falling.
